Hi, I hope you’re doing well and keeping safe! I’ve been thinking lately about keeping myself busy at home. Being at home all day I’ve started to feel really down and lethargic. All I do is wake up and work all day and then I go to bed. I want to add some spice in my life, something that I can escape to that isn’t on my screen. My eyes get tired and they hurt from staring at my laptop all day and I think for those who are studying, we need a bit of excitement in our lives right now and to have something to escape to when we need a much deserved break.
I’ve got a few hobbies we can start and some are your typical ones but I think they’ll help our mental health in the long term.
1. Gardening

After going away with my boyfriend this week to a farm, all I want to do is start a veggie garden. I have embraced my inner farmer and I want to be able to eat my own produce and be that bitch. I think it’s a great hobby! You get to eat what you grow and that’s something I find very cool lol. You can start small and start with herbs! Otherwise if you’re not a plant person because you forget about watering them, you can get cacti because those don’t need a lot of water.
2. Yoga

Everyone talks about how great yoga is and then you say you’ll try it but you don’t. I’m very much guilty of that lol. It’s important to keep flexible and look after your body, it makes the biggest difference and prepares yourself when you’re older so your body is still in shape. Yoga seems like it’s easy but it really isn’t. You’re pushing your body to be more mobile than it is and that’s hard. Although, I would recommend warming up your body before yoga, even if it’s just walking for 10 minutes so your muscles are not stiff.
3. Painting/drawing

Art is very therapeutic in my opinion. It’s a great way to express yourself visually even if you think you’re terrible. It’s all about practice! Find your style and find your preferred medium! Art is complex but it is all subjective so no matter what anyone else thinks, if you like it, then that’s all there is to it. Find some inspo on Pinterest and express yourself. There isn’t one definition of what is considered art, it’s what you find to be beautiful.
4. Flower Arranging

Who doesn’t like flowers??? They literally add to everything. All I want to do is buy dozens of bouquets and that will be my life lol. I know flowers are quite expensive but if you find a good contact that can give you a better price or you’re willing to splurge then go for it! You can make the flowers look visually pleasing and it’s fun to be creative like that! You can get different kinds of flowers and see if you want it monochrome or use complimentary colours and go wild with your imagination! You can make it beautiful.
5. Journaling

You know when something happens to you and you want to talk about it but then you feel bad about ranting to someone or you don’t have someone you can talk to at the time. Write it down. Sometimes we can’t always express ourselves through words and we need to write it down to get it all out. I’ve started to journal at night, just a short page about my day and it gets it off my mind so the next day I can start fresh. I’ve always loved writing so I think this hobby resonates with me most. When you’re feeling down or feeling happy, write it down, you don’t want to forget this moment.
6. Learning an instrument
I played piano and marimba in high school and I loved it. Playing an instrument does wonders for your brain, I’m not going to make a list out of it but you should check it out. It helps with memory, reading, etc. If you have the option of learning then it’s worth trying out. I know instruments are expensive but if you have one at your disposal then go for it! It’ll also give a lot more life to your home because who doesn’t love listening to beautiful music?!
7. Cooking/baking

Everyone started baking during lockdown, I know, but it’s fun! Honestly, if you can have a hobby, make it one where you can eat what you make lol. I’ve become a lot more involved in the kitchen and I really love it. I’ve always enjoyed baking but I’ve started to cook too! It’s a great way to learn some new skills and try out new recipes. Play some music, grab a glass of wine and dance around the kitchen will cooking!
8. Sewing

If you can make your own clothes then that’s a serious skill. Imagine seeing an outfit that you like but you can’t get it where you are or it’s too expensive and you just make your own version. That’s the life fr. I know sewing is hard and it’s a tough skill to learn but it comes with practice and you can create whatever your heart desires! You have so much freedom with this and I think it’s a great skill to have and you can make something original and unique that no one can have!
That’s all for today my beauties! Have a lovely weekend and look after yourself. Try out one of these hobbies and let me know your thoughts!
