Cherry Red, the colour of the season

If you haven’t seen the recent obsession with cherry red, here’s the update you need.

This vibrant red takes its name from the beautiful intense colour of cherries.

This colour has taken over social media and has made an imprint in the fashion world. As autumn has started, cherry red has become the fall colour of 2023. This red is deep, vibrant, and intense. It’s not a subtle colour, but who doesn’t’ want to make a statement anyway?

We’ve seen it in shoes, jackets, bags, even nail polish. By all means, it’s not a new colour, it’s just gotten so much attention recently that many brands are taking advantage of. The most well-known, I’d say, is the pair of Mango heels that everyone has been talking about.

While I’ve linked them, they’re completely sold out in every single size! This all started from a TikTok I saw where someone did an unboxing after they purchased a pair and it got hundreds of thousands of views. This colour is popping up everywhere now and people are trying to get more and more products this tone.

Personally, with this type of colour, I feel that less is more. Red is a bright colour and if you enjoy a more subtle pop of colour, it’s better to invest in certain items instead making your entire wardrobe this shade. As someone who has always loved a deep red, I’ve already got some pieces in my wardrobe and in my beauty cabinet that I can refer to.

If you’re on a tight budget and don’t really want to splash out on shoes that you might only wear once, or that you’d rather dip your toes into the shade instead of going all in, rather try some nail polish! I’ve always loved this gorgeous colour from Essie called Bordeaux and it’s been one of my favourites for years. It’s described as a ‘deep red wine’ which is incredibly similar to the cherry red shade. For only 8.99, it’s worth trying the shade out and seeing whether you like it or not. I’ve linked it below. Another deep red shade of theirs is Sole Mate which is described as a deep plum looks incredibly inviting.

Nails aren’t the only way to incorporate this shade in your beauty regime, lipstick is an excellent way to add a pop of colour. The Maybelline SuperStay Vinyl Ink Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade 55 Royal is one of my absolute favourite red lipsticks. It’s intense and deep and is flattering on a lot of skintones. Wear it with a deep brown lip liner or a red one to match and it’s magic. It’s got great staying power too which I was really impressed with. I don’t often wear a red lip but it adds so much to a look and makes you stand out. I’ve linked it here:

That covers the beauty department in my opinion, let’s talk about fashion!

Something I’ve always wanted, is a red leather jacket. They’re such a statement piece and can really upgrade an outfit from simple to stunning. A good quality leather jacket will last a lifetime, they’re an investment but they’re worth it. This won’t be a cheap find, it’s more about finding a gem that will last you several seasons. I saw some options on ASOS, Motel Rocks, Free People, Jaded London, and Mango. Taking a look at Vinted and Depop are also great places to look and find something at a better price, vintage and charity shops are fantastic options too.

This is just something I found on Pinterest, there you can find lots of outfit inspo.

Another item is a bag. A bag has always been a statement piece (hello Carrie Bradshaw). Shoes were not the only thing she accumulated, her purse collection really was something. A bag of mine that is one of my favourite pieces, is a gorgeous Coach Tabby bag in a deep maroon. Other brands like JW Pei have lovely options, Longchamp, Charles and Keith, Saint Laurent, Mulberry, and Tory Burch. Take a look at websites like Nordstrom and Selfridges to see the options.

This Mulberry bag is classic but still pops with the deep burgundy, heres the link: https://www.nordstrom.com/s/mulberry-small-amberly-leather-satchel/7055385?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FWomen%2FHandbags&fashioncolor=Burgundy&color=930

This shade, being so dark, has an autumnal feel to it, but it can still be worn in every other season, it seems to be more suitable to evening looks but you can do whatever you want to do because it all depends on your own personal style.

Cherry red might be described as the autumn colour of 2023, but I feel it’s always been an autumnal shade that people are now noticing. It’s timeless and versatile, and that’s what makes it so fabulous. I hope you’ve found something to your liking that you can add into your wardrobe.
