I know swimming in cold water does not sound so appealing but it is honestly incredible. I started to go with my dad ever since the beaches opened up again and it’s changed my life. I’ve been going almost every day since.
Depending on where you live, if the sea is too warm then I’d definitely incorporate cold showers! If you live in a colder country, don’t fret, I saw a video of these people going and swimming in Poland. Poland in the freezing cold!!! I don’t know how they did it but they did! They wore these big fluffy hats, gloves and shoes but they went passed the snow and into the icy cold water, so no, you don’t have an excuse.
Both cold showers and cold swims have similar benefits but the swims have different but better benefits in my opinion!
Better sleep
I’ve noticed a big difference with my sleeping pattern, my sleeps are deeper and peaceful. I wake up refreshed and well rested and that was something I noticed immediately.
Less stress
The cold water is proven to help you de-stress and help with anxiety and depression! I’ve felt much calmer lately and not as panicked as I normally do. The cold water puts your body in a state of shock and by adjusting to that, your body is less likely to react to stressful situations as severely or at all.
Tighter and better skin
My dad’s been doing this with me and he’s 60 years old although a young 60. He said his skin feels much tighter and better. A lot of elderly people (not that my dad’s elderly lol) and they’re doing it for a reason! My mom’s friend suffered from psoriasis and she said it disappeared after doing these swims. My boyfriend surfs a lot and the water has made a massive difference to his skin so it helps clear up acne tremendously.
Boosted metabolism
I don’t know how the water does this but it makes your metabolism faster so if you want to lose weight, this can speed up the process. It’s a very effective tool to lose weight. My godmother said that her healthy eating plan normally helps her lose 1.5kg a month but because of her swims she’s lost 3kg.
Boosted mood
These swims give you a sense of achievement. You did something exciting and you feel great afterwards. I feel accomplished and like I can do anything. I feel far more alert and awake afterwards and it’s something I want to continue. You begin to crave it and it makes the biggest difference in your mood.
A side benefit of the sea swims
A lot of people are doing these swims, and I mean a lot. There’s been a massive increase in people doing it and when you go down for a swim, you interact! You start talking to people and chatting about the swimming and the temperature of the water. There’s a great sense of community and all the locals know each other. It’s always nice to see a friendly face there. The talking also helps time go faster!
Overall this is a worthwhile experience. I think it’s worth a try and if you can’t go for a swim, try the cold shower. I do it sometimes to cool down after a long hot day and it makes a difference. Start to incorporate it into your routine. This woman I met while at the beach would go for a run and then swim and then meditate for 30 min, if that isn’t an amazing morning routine or what!!!
Try it out and let me know your thoughts! See you soon beauties, enjoy your weekend.
